“I’m not in this line of work so that I can design my dream home over and over again,” says the designer. “It has to feel like my client’s home when I’m finished.” Gillies describes her style as classic with a touch of formality, which can be seen in the north Toronto homes and stately Kingsway residences that she’s renovated. Her specialty is family homes, and Gillies stresses that classic and formal doesn’t mean uncomfortable and not child-friendly. In fact, effective storage, durability and safety are her top priorities.
