If April was a colour it would have to be (in my humble opinion) similar to pale caramel leather or the colour of the shell of a brown organic egg. It’s a neutral with a glow.
It’s the colour of health, vitality and radiance. When worn it cancels out any harmful effects caused by overindulging during Easter and Passover…….well that is what I like to think and as I said in the opening sentence, it’s all in my humble opinion.
I love April – even when the weather is rainy – it just means that the grass will slowly start to turn green and the buds will begin to form. The trees in my street are all naked and look as if they are reaching their arms out to the skies begging for some sunshine. Bring it on they are calling and I hope the sun is listening.
April is also that fun time in the year when we get to shift from our winter wardrobe into a spring wardrobe. Out with the heavy and in with lighter layers, fingers crossed!
I am heading to North Carolina mid month to High Point Market. I love this show and this year I am going with a couple of good designer friends. I know we will have a hoot, end up with a blister or two (it is over 10 million sq.ft.) and find some amazing product for our client projects. I am craving an inspiration overload. We all have quite different design aesthetics and I know we’ll pull each other off in a myriad of directions that we might not otherwise go in, it’s going to be a really interesting 4 days for sure. I am currently contemplating what I am going to pack – I actually really enjoy packing and I am a bit of a nerd in that department. I have an excel spreadsheet with all my packing lists for all my trips over the past 7 yrs. It makes packing so simple as I generally just repeat the quantities of items and it saves me so much time. When I return from a trip I remove anything that I didn’t wear from the spreadsheet and note what I was missing. As I said I bit of a packing nerd.
Here is what is on my personal wardrobe hit list to get me through the month of April and High Point Market!
A new raincoat is a must for me this year! I have a gorgeous black rain coat that I purchased from Holts 10 yrs ago. It’s Dolce & Gabbana and it looks as good as it did when I bought it, I still love it. It cost a small fortune, is possibly still the most expensive thing in my wardrobe but it’s probably down to a $1.00 per wear as I’ve worn it so often. I need a refresh, something that is lighter and more spring-like and this one from Burberry is calling my name….
I like the fact that it doesn’t have a belt (I am prone to misplacing these) and the fact that the sleeves are 3/4 length not to mention the little bit of glitter on the collar!!
I am coveting a Quartermaster Cloud White suitcase by Ebby Rane. It’s not going to happen – but just think how gorgeous it would look with a new spring coat!!! These suitcases are designed for carry-on luggage and come complete with pouches and a packing list – seriously it’s a stunning travel companion. If you fly for business on a frequent basis and want carry-on luggage this is the answer to your prayers. Check out the website here for more info!
In addition to a good looking trench an umbrella is a must have April accessory. My favourite umbrella is one I’ve had for over a decade – you will see a recurring theme here – I really believe in buying once and loving your purchase so much that it won’t cross your mind to replace it until you have no choice…it’s how I like my clients to renovate and decorate too. Who has the time or money to constantly be replacing things? Anyhow, back to umbrella’s my one is from Missoni, it has a beautiful wood handle and the Missoni pattern and the soft riot of colours ensures that it works with any outfit you wear. It’s too large for traveling with so it lives permanently in my car, always at the ready. I love it!
Next in the April hit list has to be footwear, having worn boots of one kind or another for going on 5 months I am really excited at the prospect of wearing shoes and seeing my feet again. I love my boots and the first coldish day you can wear them in the fall always feels good, but month after month it gets a bit tired. Ballet flats in all colours here I come!! Plus they make for comfortable footwear when you are walking for miles every day as we will be at High Point.
Have a wonderful April, project updates will be coming next week. I have been a little secretive about what we are working on, next week I’ll let you see some of our design schemes that are in the mix for our live and upcoming projects.
Have a great long weekend, Happy Easter / Passover.
